Designing a Laid-Back Look for Bearly High’s Launch

Developed a warm, earthy brand identity for cannabis e-commerce startup Bearly High, featuring natural tones and a playful bear mascot to stand out from bold industry norms and connect with a broad, relaxed audience.

Bearly High, a newcomer in the cannabis e-commerce space, approached me with a clear goal: build a brand identity from the ground up that would connect with both young adults and a more mature audience. At the time, they had no existing branding—just a name and a vision. To get started, I spent time with the client learning about their mission, values, and audience. It became clear they wanted a brand that felt authentic, approachable, and different from the loud, saturated styles common in the industry.

After researching the market and analyzing competitors, I noticed a trend—many cannabis brands leaned into flashy colors and edgy graphics. To help Bearly High stand out, I took a different route. I proposed a more grounded, natural aesthetic using earthy greens, browns, and organic shapes to convey a sense of quality and calm. This approach better reflected the experience the brand aimed to deliver: a feel-good, laid-back vibe that didn’t try too hard.

To bring warmth and relatability to the brand, we introduced a friendly bear mascot. Not only did the bear embody the name “Bearly High,” but it also gave the brand a personality—chill, happy, and easy to love. The result was a visual identity that felt fresh yet familiar, helping Bearly High make a confident entrance into a competitive space.
